I am Julie (Leffelman) Wasson, also known as "Ms.L" in my early days at Valley. I am a Visual Arts Specialist and have taught k-12 in the past, but presently am 7-12. Originally I am from Kewanee, Illinois so I am a Boilermaker at heart. I received an Associates degree from Black Hawk East, a Bachelor's of Science degree in Art Education from Illinois State University at Normal, and a Masters degree from the University of Illinois.
I have studied at Savanna College of Art and Design in their summer educator's classes and photography in Denver. I have spent two summers in the Mexico City/Cuernavaca area of Mexico studying Pre-Columbian art and culture. Travel has taken me to museums and galleries from New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco to Amsterdam, London, and Edinburgh. Several years ago found me traveling to Cape Town, South Africa.
Whether I am standing in front of Rembrandt's Night Watch at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam or a pre-historic rock drawing in the hills outside of Cape Town, I am amazed at the wealth of visual imagery our world has to offer those who are willing to explore. My goal is to share this imagery and the excitement of exploration with the students of Spoon River Valley.
