There are today 70 Scholastic Regions across the nation of which Spoon River Valley is part of the Mid-Central Illinois. Our region covers 21 counties covering the middle of the state.
Nationally over 180,000 pieces were submitted for judging. The Scholastic is a juried show which means the student's work are judged by a panel of professional artists and educators to be considered for acceptance. 785 pieces were submitted and juried this year in the Mid-Central Illinois Region from 32 schools and 41 teachers. 216 pieces were chosen for exhibit.
Certificate of Merit winners are recognized for being accepted into the show. Silver Key recipients are Regional Finalists. National Finalists receive a Gold Key. Lydia received a Certificate of Merit. Emma was a Regional (State) Finalist with a Silver Key. Abbie is a Gold Key Finalist and will be competing on the National level in New York City.
The pieces are on display from January 30-February 25, 2011 at the Springfield Art Association Gallery. Honor's Day activities are planned for the students on February 25 at Benedictine University. The artists are the students of Julie Wasson. We are proud of their talents and accomplishments. Not bad for a "little school in the cornfields."
